This article is for V2 and V1 3D scanners.
If the scan head is not returning to the base of the scanner, there are a few possibilities:
- You have some magnetic interference that is triggering the sensor early. We've seen this happen if people put their scanner next to devices like mini-fridges, old magnetic hard drives, portable fans, etc. To start, manually rotate the black leadscrew to get the scan head back to the bottom position. Try moving the scanner to somewhere far away from other devices (your couch, kitchen table, etc.) and calibrating again. If it works properly, you'll have to figure out the source of the interference or find a different spot for the scanner.
- The home position is incorrectly saved in the scanner firmware - if you see the scan head going down after calibration, but not all the way to the bottom, this is most likely the problem. This can be reset through the old version of software on Windows (MFScan) or through the Arduino IDE software. If you think this is what has happened to you please email support@matterandform.net and we can provide thorough instructions on how to reset the value.
- The sensor in the base of the scanner has failed. If this is the case, the path forward depends on when and where you purchased the scanner; if it's under warranty the reseller can replace it with a new scanner, and it if it's out of warranty we can potentially sell and ship you a replacement sensor.
